How This Stress Test Works

Historical and hypothetical data

Historical replay uses adjusted closes for stocks and ETFs and daily USD closes for crypto. Missing crypto history requires your explicit approval of a hypothetical path. Missing stock or ETF coverage blocks replay.

Contributions and purchase timing

Starting investment occurs at the first common observed close. Recurring deposits begin one interval after the requested start, anchored to that date. Equity contribution cash waits for the next supported close; hypothetical prices are available every calendar day.

Drawdown, XIRR and recovery

Drawdown and recovery use a chain-linked return index that removes deposits. XIRR uses actual dated cash flows. Recovery is measured from the maximum-drawdown peak and is never extrapolated beyond this scenario.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are stocks and ETFs calculated?

Both Historical Crisis and Custom Period use actual adjusted historical closes for the selected dates. No market-change or beta formula is applied in those historical modes. AI Scenario estimates stock and ETF impact using trailing-year beta × the S&P 500 scenario change, and crypto impact using the scenario crypto change. It uses the current invested value, without future deposits or an invented price path. Missing stock or ETF coverage blocks historical replay.

What does crypto fallback mean?

A missing crypto history is replaced only after you approve a clearly identified hypothetical decline and price path. This never becomes historical price data.
