How This Comparison Works

Stocks & ETFs & Crypto

Stocks and ETFs use the same daily adjusted-price histories as the individual calculators. The provider incorporates dividend and split adjustments; dividends are not added again.

Crypto uses daily USD closing prices. Staking rewards, lending interest, fees and taxes are excluded.

Dates and recurring investments

The full starting amount and each recurring contribution apply separately to every selected investment. Your selected start date anchors the contribution schedule. Purchases use the next available price record, so execution dates can differ.

Normal weekend and holiday shifts are handled automatically. Actual price dates appear beneath each result. If an investment’s history begins much later, choose a later start date. Contributions awaiting an available execution price at the end remain pending cash.

Investment values and returns

Final Value includes fractional units purchased plus any pending cash. Total Invested includes the starting investment and scheduled contributions through the selected end date. Amounts are not split between assets.

Total Return is Final Value minus Total Invested. Return (%) is Total Return divided by Total Invested. Annualized Return (XIRR) uses dated cash flows to account for contribution timing; unavailable solutions are labeled.

Maximum Drawdown and Avg. Daily Price Movement use underlying price records, rather than portfolio balances changed by contributions.

Frequently Asked Questions

About this calculator and its data.
How many investments can I compare?

Advanced DCA Compare supports 2–5 different stocks, ETFs and crypto assets in one comparison and requires Pro access.

Can I compare a stock with an ETF or crypto?

Yes. You can mix supported stocks, ETFs and crypto assets. Every selected investment receives the same starting amount, recurring amount, frequency and requested period.

Is my investment split between the assets?

No. The full starting amount and each recurring contribution apply independently to every selected asset. This compares alternatives; it is not a portfolio allocation.

Can I start with no initial investment?

Yes. Enter $0 or leave Starting Investment blank, then enter a positive recurring amount and choose a period containing at least one contribution. A positive starting amount can also be compared with $0 recurring contributions.

How are recurring contributions scheduled?

Choose Weekly, Biweekly, Monthly, Quarterly or Yearly. The selected start date anchors the schedule; recurring contributions begin after the starting investment. Purchases move to the next available price observation when their scheduled date has no price. Changing frequency does not calculate automatically.

Are dividends and stock splits included?

Stock and ETF calculations use the provider’s adjusted-price series, which incorporates dividend and split adjustments. Dividends are not added a second time. Crypto calculations exclude staking and lending rewards.

Why can actual dates differ from my selected dates?

Stocks and ETFs do not trade on weekends or market holidays. Crypto uses available daily closing records. Normal calendar shifts are handled automatically while preserving requested dates and the contribution schedule.

Each result shows its actual price dates. Contributions that cannot execute before the last supported price remain pending cash in the final value.

What is the difference between Price CAGR and Annualized Return (XIRR)?

Price CAGR describes the annualized growth of an asset’s price. Annualized Return (XIRR) accounts for when money was invested, including the starting amount and recurring contributions.

Because contributions occur on different dates, price growth and money-weighted DCA returns can differ. This page labels its annualized investment return as XIRR. If no valid solution is available, it shows Unavailable.

What do Maximum Drawdown and Avg. Daily Price Movement mean?

Maximum Drawdown

The largest percentage fall from a previous high in the available daily price records within your selected period. Adding contributions does not reset the high or conceal a price decline.

Avg. Daily Price Movement

The average absolute percentage change between consecutive available daily prices. Upward and downward changes both count; gains and losses do not cancel out. Stocks and ETFs use trading-day observations; crypto uses daily closing records. This describes past movement rather than forecasting future returns.

What if historical data is missing?

The calculator identifies the affected investment instead of inventing prices or silently removing it. If its history begins much later than your selected start, choose a later period. Price histories can be incomplete or revised.

Historical performance does not predict future results. This calculation excludes transaction costs and taxes.
